Cargo Pipes

Corgo Pipes

  • Liquid lines
  • Vapour lines
  • Condensate return lines
  • Lines to vent mast
  • Pipes inside the cargo tank
  • Seawater pipes to the cargo cooling plant

  • Normally fitted with liquid and vapor manifolds situated amidships.
  • Connected to liquid and vapor headers “pipelines” with branches leading into each cargo tank.
  • Liquid loading line is led through the tank dome to the bottom of each cargo tank.
  • Vapor connection is taken from the top of each cargo tank
  • Cargo pipelines are not allowed beneath deck level.
  • All pipe connections to tanks are taken through the cargo tank domes which penetrates the main deck.
  • Design and fitting of cargo pipelines must allow for thermal expansion and contraction.

  • IGC 5.2.1.2 : Protection of piping, piping system components should be made by the use of offsets, loops, bends, mechanical expansion joints such as bellows, slip joints and ball joints.
  • All pipelines or components which maybe isolated in a liquid-full condition should be provided with RELIEF VALVES.
  • Low-temperature piping should be thermally isolated from the adjacent hull structure, to prevent the temperature of the hull from falling below the design of the hull material.
  • Piping that are separated from the ship’s structure by thermal isolation,
  • All gasketed pipe joints and hose connections should be electrically bonded.

  • Semi-ref and fully ref LPG ships, a vapor connection is taken from the vapor header to the cargo compressor room where reliquefaction of the boil-off takes place.
  • After the reliquefaction the cargo is led via condensate return line “Spray Line”, to each cargo tank.
  • For LNG ships, the boil-off vapors are usually fed to ship’s boilers, via a compressor and heater, for use as fuel for main ship’s propulsion.
