If excessive list occurs rapidly and unexpectedly it may be due to:
Failure of the hull plating.
Failure of an internal bulkhead between compartments.
Shift of cargo.
Flooding of a large space such as the engine room, where free surface can cause a list.
Damage through grounding or collision.
Incorrect operational procedures.

Fire and Explosion
If an explosion or a fire occurs on board:
Sound the emergency alarm, deploy the vessel’s fire emergency team(s) and follow the emergency procedures

Hull Leakage
